The boyfriend gave Elian the inner-tube instead of taking it himself. It is absolutely disgusting to me that anyone would be supportive of sending a 6 year old child back to Cuba, and defending their myopic views by attacking someone who sacrificed his life for a child.

What violence? It's never been shown that either party has abused the boy. If anything, the focus should be on how cruel the Cuban government is to its own people that drives people to leave. As with all communist and dictatorial states, people who work for government security and political apparatus are given favorable housing, jobs, education, food, etc. Everybody else is treated as slave labor.
