...while Juan sucked up the beers
You are making a very negative assumption, one that by the way makes you look less than thoughtful, and then presenting it as truth without acknowledging the possibility of other explanations. We have no idea what happened to Juan in those four months. And as I have no idea, I refuse to condemn him on the basis of what you wish were true.

Passing the buck..
Again- I guess this is your "debating technique"? He did what he could at the moment-he wasn't even sure where Elian was- so he called MIami to say he suspected they might be on their way and please help them.
As soon as the father arrived in America and the family was requested to turn over the child, they should have done so. The community has no legal claim in the disposition of this boy.

Oh those bad, bad Miami Cuban exiles. They wanted their family together. They wanted their family to live in a free country. Wow! Bad, bad, bad! I can see why you are against them! <g>

Now here's a REALLY intelligent comment.
When all else fails and you have nothing worhtwhile to say, you can make up some negative things about me and pretend I said things I never did. Very good.
The only thing I'm against is the sort of baseless emotional one-sided hyperbole that you seem compelled to offer.
