Demonstrations Across the U.S. to Keep Eli n Free in America

capitalismmagazine.com

The intellectual battle for Eli n's rights is not over-- thousands of Americans will be holding demonstrations on Wednesday, May 10th, 2000 outside the Federal Buildings of major American cities.

Mission:
Eli n's right to his own life is the fundamental issue in this case, and this issue is being covered up by the false alternative of "family values" versus "anti-Castro politics". The goal of this demonstration is to make Americans aware that the moral thing to do is the American thing to do: protect Eli n's right to his own life by keeping Eli n free in America, since according to Cuban law his life does not belong to him, but to the state.

Just more confirmation of Klinton and his people doing what they have done for eight years - destroy or take, either by armed force, or by decimating the life and livelihood of those opposing them...

Dershowitz for those who may not know, it one BIG BIG flaming liberal Klinton apologist.

Dershowitz: Reno-INS 'Took Law into Their Own Hands'

Last Thursday night Alan Dershowitz appeared in CNBC's Geraldo program.

Some of his comments are excerpted below.

Family Was Not Breaking the Law

"They[the government] had a very easy remedy here. They could have gone to a court [and] got a court order, held the family in contempt. If the family refused to leave, then they could have gotten a warrant and arrested family members who were in contempt of court. ...They couldn't have because the family was not breaking the law."

Only a Court Order Can Direct a Citizen

"Nobody has an obligation in this country to listen to the executive. The executive, whether it's the president or the INS, has no authority over citizens of this country.

"You need a court order to tell a citizen of this country to respond to the INS. And it establishes a terrible precedent for Janet Reno or any other member of the administration to set deadlines, to give orders.

"Citizens do not have an obligation to obey the executive. They have an obligation to obey court orders."

Reno Circumvented Court Order

"And remember another thing: that Janet Reno circumvented the court order. The court order said essentially, 'Let's retain the status quo.' The object of this raid was to moot the appeal because we're now going to see the lawyers for the father...

"... am predicting that this is going to happen. We're going to see this appeal mooted as the result of this--of this removal of the child and the change in the status quo.

"... Because the father will now say that the child has no right to make an application for asylum, and the 11th Circuit will be stripped of its jurisdiction.

"...the 11th Circuit wanted to decide, and it's exactly why the 11th Circuit ordered him to stay in the United States, and that's exactly why they didn't seek a court order, because they knew they wouldn't get one." (my emphasis)

Reno-INS Took Law into Their Own Hands

"And they took the law into their own hands, and that's what's wrong here. And as a civil libertarian, you have to complain, even when you think the right result may have been reached if the wrong means were used in reaching it."

So this is the "I know what is best for you and I'm going to make you live that way" argument? Do you realize how antithetical to freedom that IS? You cannot force people to be free and be for freedom. You are a dictatorial hypocrite. I LOVE my freedom. I wish everyone wanted to live the way we do. I wish everyone did live the way we do (although, of course, we then wouldn't have the standard of living we have now- the earth simply couldn't support everyone living in such luxury).

But YOU are willing to imprison someone in this country in order to be free. When you talk about Elian's "rights" you MEAN the right he has to do what YOU think he should do. Not the right to make any choice. And he should make the choice- whatever it is, even if it is to drop his asylum claim. If he wants to be state property in Cuba a true freedom lover would give him that choice. You mouth the words of freedom but do not comprehend them.
