I remember very well, Jerry himself stated in the November CC this 50% ramp being the normal ramp for AMD. There was an analyst question about that. He further stated being rather somewhat more conservative because of the infrastructure issue. They are just on track, it seems. Boris

Re: a rational explanation of why it makes sense for AMD to be sold out of product or being short... I have no idea where I saw it, but I recall from last summer an interview with a somewhat bitter and very disappointed Jerry Sanders in which he said the banks had refused to loan him the money he wanted (and needed) to ramp up Dresden more quickly. Dresden design center is also (I think) working on the advanced (multiprocessor and DDR) chipsets - those may also have been delayed for the same reason. So it may simply be that no one would lend AMD the money to do what Jerry (and you) wanted AMD to do. It's not hard to blame them, really, considering that AMD was losing money at the time. AMD also guaranteed the sale of every Athlon motherboard produced and made sure there were plenty of 750 chipsets available. I really don't know what else could have been done. I think AMD is very much aware of the importance of the infrastructure issue and has done a fabulous job. Compare what cash strapped resource poor AMD accomplished next to what money-coming-out-of-its-ears design-centers-all-over-the-place Intel was able to do with its new Rambus platform and 800 series chipset family. It's not that easy, and I think AMD really did a great job. Regards, Dan
