Dennis - Thanks for the compliment. I'm sometimes thought of as a bit of an idiot savant when it comes to remembering pop music of that 1965-1968 era.

I was intrigued enough to try to find out some info on Otis Smith - I did find an album put out in 1975 of local Woodstock artists that included a tune by an Otis Smith. The song is described as an "exuberent contemporary rhythm and blues rocker", so perhaps he's the one. I also learned that Lou Reed was a member of a band called The All Night Workers prior to Velvet Underground.

Regarding the British Walkers, I can remember two hits they had in this area around 1965 or so. One was "I Found You" and had lyrics that went something like this (bear in mind I haven't heard the song in about 30 years)

You were my love
how can this be
Why were you
sent to me
I was lonely
then my dreams came true
I found you,
I found you

Pretty simplistic tune with a very Beatle-esque sound to it (as you'd expect from the name of the group).

The other tune was "The Girl Can't Help It". Here's a link to a profile of the group (a great site for info on regional bands of the 60's)

I'd love to see some compilations of regional hits - especially R&B. I'd bet that some of those tunes would be much better than what currently gets airplay nationally.
