I find it interesting to read current analyst reviews so bullish about Rambus prospects while so negative on DDR. Why do Rambus and Intel "have it right" this time, what with price issues, latency issues, granularity issues, availability issues?

Sounds like a solid sentiment change. In marketing, that is the most powerful thing that can happen. It washes away true technical or pricing issues and can result is a "gotta do it because" attitude.

We'll see. I am sure the debate will rage into next year and beyond.

Dave,

Maybe Jim was referring to this part of the article, which you neglected to clip:

As far as the desktop is concerned, however, he [Gordon of Dataquest] has stronger views. "DDR in the mainstream PC market is basically a non-starter," he said. "Intel and Rambus have got it right here.
Intel and Rambus have got the mainstream market sewn up."

The analyst who made those remarks believes that AMD is not a factor in the mainstream PC market going out into the future. It is amazing to me that there are paid professionals who continue to maintain this point of view.

Do you think that all of Intel's customers will be willing to pay a price premium for DRDRAM?
