zak,

do you recall their cover of "more, more, more of your love'? he did a pretty decent impersonation of smokey, imo. i was even fooled for a little while.

only other time i recall being that tricked by an artist sounding like another was the first time i heard stevie winwood singing 'roll with it'. i swore it was jr.walker and the allstars. <g3>

speaking of junior... i was quite proud that i recognized his sax solo in foreigner's 'urgent' many years back. i just knew it had to be him, and it was! sometime after that, i read in rollingstone that the group sought jr. out and asked him to play because they wanted that special sax sound that only jr. could produce. when they tracked him down and asked him to blow, he reportedly asked the group, "now how do you want me to play this? what kind of sound do you want?" and they replied, "we want you to blow that horn the way you see fit, that's exactly why we got you!" if you happen to have that song in your collection, dig it out and give a listen to jr.'s sax solo. awesome is the word. leaves you wanting to hear twenty more minutes of the same thing!

do i miss philly cheesesteaks? do you really have to ask?

:)
