Sitera and Kingston Introduce Rambus RIMM Technology for the Communications Market

BUSINESS WIRE - May 03, 2000 08:19

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 3, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Sitera Incorporated and Kingston(R) Technology Company, Inc. today announced that the Sitera Network Acceleration Platform is shipping with high-bandwidth memory technology supplied by Kingston. Using Rambus(R) interface technology, the Sitera PRISM IQ2000 Network Processor is able to support a 12.8 gigabits per second data path to Kingston's RIMM(R) modules. As a result, the Sitera Network Processor is able to provide wire-speed packet processing while enabling memory intensive, advanced network services.

Kingston Technology Company, Inc., having worked with Intel Corporation and Rambus Inc., over several years, has been instrumental in facilitating the market ramp of the new Rambus memory technology and is now working with Sitera to target the rapidly growing market of communications.

"The ramp of Rambus memory technology across the PC and Communications market coupled with three years of Kingston expertise will enable Kingston to provide premium quality RIMM modules to customers worldwide," said Al Soni, Vice President, Services Division, Kingston. "With the right industry partnerships, technology and dedicated people, Kingston leads the delivery of premium-quality Rambus memory modules."

"Sitera and Kingston are pioneering the use of high-performance RDRAM in the memory bandwidth intensive market of communications," stated Steve Flannery, President and CEO of Sitera. "Providing sophisticated network services, such as VPN, IPSec, MPLS, Diff-Serv, and Policy Management, requires memory bandwidth for high-speed table lookups which can be economically provided only by RIMM technology."

Each Sitera PRISM IQ2000 processor can use multiple RIMM(TM) modules providing up to half a gigabyte of storage for large, sparse tables; packet payloads; statistics and more.
