You are referring to "fiber to the curb" vs Metro backbones. Fiber to the curb is an even larger market, but farther out due to cost.

Lucius: Cheer up. Wireless may come to the rescue. 1XRTT and/or HDR from Qualcomm. Then full 3rd gen.

BTW on fiberoptics. The current market is the commercial and "wholesale" market for the companies buying JDSU widgets. Long distance, both under land and sea. The "metro" market should come on strong next year.

And of course there is "wireless" fiber now to buildings in urban areas and more to come.

Many possibilities for the future moving forward on many fronts next year.

And then there is satellite for bent pipe "last mile" delivery anywhere in the world in a few years. Again that will start with commercial but then branch out to individuals.

Trick is to take care and live a couple more years to take advantage of these choices.
