Mani, I read recently that Dell does not plan to use the Athlon in any of it's systems in the near future. They are happy with Intel and I assume have contracted exclusively with them. That is what swayed me to buy the Athlon...could'nt get it from Dell so I went elsewhere.

Ted did you really expect the next versions of Athlon to work on your current MB?

Mani

Yes, I did...why would I expect to have to replace a MB when I upgraded Athlons. Given the way chip costs were dropping, I figured I could do the upgrade in 6 mos to a year with a new 950 chip for the same price as the 550 I installed in March. I believe others are thinking the same way; not knowing that they will have to replace 6 mos old MB's at the same time.

RE:"I will need a new machine at work soon, hurry up DELL! I may have to break some unwritten company policy if DELL will not have an Athlon machine soon."

I wouldn't hold your breath. The recent buying consortium less Intel and Dell suggests they have their own agenda. Dell is still Intels B*tch.
