Thanks, FB, this is the kind of information that shows up some of the holes in my view of the fab scene. I was under the impression that the JV fab that's going to Infineon was planned as a 300mm test bed, so that jibes with your note. However, I do remember planning to ship 200mm tools there as well, back when I was at AMAT. Maybe their clean room is mixed formats, 200mm and 300mm? I dunno. I know they began releasing output very late in 1998 or early 1999.

Yeah, Infineon is where they're heading, yes? Siemens just couldn't quite get into sync with Motorola on this and a few other joint efforts; mainly because Moto got into Big Trouble financially in the 1998 dip. Indeed, there were major rumors in the late 1998 time frame here in Austin that Siemens would simply buy out Motorola's chip business! It didn't happen, of course, but it does indicate their relative financial strengths at that point in time.
