FREMONT, Calif., March 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Avanex Corporation (Nasdaq: AVNX - news) announced today that it has completed a lease for an additional 91,000 square feet of space in a building that is adjacent to its headquarters and manufacturing facility in Fremont, which will nearly triple the size of the company's corporate offices and manufacturing space. This release makes it even more unlikely Avanex had 150,000 sq. ft of manufacturing when Mr. Gilder visited. At most they could have had some portion of 54,000 sq. ft up and running. (To do this they would have to be twice as fast SDL.) Let me once again remind you of TGR's wording:However hard it may be to focus in the midst of downward flight, I suggest that you steer your parachute toward its polychrome photonic trampoline, deployed in two buildings with close to 150,000 square feet of manufacturing space at Encyclopedia Center. The name Avanex will be familiar to most of you. Some of you who bought its shares in the aftermath of its $14 billion IPO may be ruing the ruinous day you learned it. But you can be assured that in those buildings, replete with some 450 animated Asian workers, you can find some of the most creative minds in all optics and the single most promising new product in the industry, the Avanex PowerMux or symetrical multiplexer-demultiplexer. . . GG's description is at minimum exaggerated by a factor of 3. By posting the press release announcing the signing of the lease on the 91,000 sq. ft. addition my guess moves from supposition to fact. Not only do we now have 54,000 sq. ft. of total space but we somehow have to fit 450 workers inside. Since this story's getting better every day, I'll give you another jaw-breaker to suck on: our fantasy workers in our fantasy space most likely were working on a fantasy product. According to all the SEC documents, 99% of products shipped last quarter were the PowerFilter not the PowerMux so until we get another quarter report, we'll have to guess what percentage was the latter. I'll be generous and allow the exaggerated workers in the exaggerated space the job of working on the exaggerated product. Fair enough? Unless you have some reason to question company press releases and SEC documents, I see no reason to visit the company with my trusty Black and Decker extra-long measuring tape in hand. However, I have a very good friend who lives in Fremont and owns a commercial janitorial service and I assure you he could get more information than you could swallow at one sitting. If you really want to know, just give the word. Pat
