DVDinsider hasn't yet updated their "Vital Statistics" for this week, but this site

dvdfile.com

shows strong rebound in Region 1 player sales for the week ending 4/30, 241,357 versus 76,596 from the prior week. This is also a 101% increase from the same week last year (after the 7.6% year-over-year decrease last week).

John,

Why didn't they play golf some day, get drunk in the process...fire up the beer muscles and toss a few punches to settle this a few years ago???...you know.....like most guys do!!.....then....a few days later drink nicely together with their wives and b/s and move on.... and we all live happily ever after?? <GGG>>>

Seriously....that woulda done it, IMO.

I'm thinking buy HLIT on dips(go Divi)....trade in and out of CUBE like semi pig..???

John...Could the AAPL deal( & possible takeover..doubt it) have something to do with the shakeout of Seqeuoia mgt from the CUBE board. Doesn't Sequoia have stake in AAPL as well?

China's DVD Player Market to be Upbeat in 2000
nikkeibp.asiabiztech.com

May 8, 2000 (BEIJING) -- China's DVD player market is likely to pick up in 2000.

According to a recent report, about three to five million DVD players will be sold this year,
as prices are falling and market demand is growing.

However, video compact disc (VCD) players will retain their position as the mainstream
products, according to a Ministry of Information Industry official.

China sold 100,000 DVD players in 1998. In 1999, sales soared to more than one million.
The average price of DVD players has decreased from the previous RMB7,000 (US$843) to
below RMB2,000.

But a national standard for DVD players is still unavailable in China, leaving a crack for
many companies to sacrifice their product quality for lower prices.
