It has been proven to be untrue, which is the "result of the hard work". We were talking about intrinsic credibility. That is why my first example was the ant. One would not expect it to be able to carry 20 times its weight, but there it is. Actually, I find the 5% figure amazing enough.One reason I hesitate to say that it was a deliberate lie by the pro- life forces is that I can well imagine someone writing a pamphlet without detailed notes turning 1/20th into 20% due to a failure of memory. If you read the New York Review of Books (I am pretty sure E does), you know that it is not unusual for a review to call attention to numerous factual errors, and to nevertheless recommend the book as being mostly sound. One error is certainly not discrediting.......
