. . . . . . . Summer Bear Gets Sharper Teeth. . . .

Well, I think we have our answer on which way the market's natural tendencies are on low volume. . . last week an argument could be made that would counter a summer bear. . .but it would be pretty tough to call it anything but a summer bear at this point.

It now has all the characteristics. . .very low volume. . .great stocks drifting lower on low volume. . .mixed performances within a sector. . . bears getting more aggressive. . .Barrons attacking the leading tech stock. . .the media peddling interest rate fears. . .air released from momentum traders confidence. . .trader and investor confidence weakened. . .leadership coming from sectors such as gold, oil, paper, food and cyclicals.. . . Decreased volatility.. . . less crowded elevators on Wall Street. . . little on the horizon to fire up the bulls. . . and finally, confirmation that the big players have gone for the summer and have set their short-positions in the leading tech stocks. . . indicated by a sharp downward tendency on very low volume. . . as illustrated several days last week and confirmed today.

So we continue with our current plan of playing swings when we spot bottoms. . .staying light on feet. . .or out. . or short. . .until either 1. the selling weakens and we start back north in our trading range. . . or 2. we re-test the April lows once more and wait for a bottom that holds.

Last year, the media torched Amazon, Yahoo and AOL. . . this year, it looks like it will be CSCO, MSFT and INTC. . .with JDSU, QCOM and the whole biotech sector for desert.

It takes a ton of effort to maintain portfolio values in a summer bear market by playing long. . . best not to fight the ticker and short the QQQ, etc.

There is still much to do to prepare for our next set of plays. . . so I would appreciate the regular check-ins we're used to. . . and don't be surprised if you get an announcement in the mail regarding Insighters.com in the coming weeks.

The bull is not dead. . .just sleeping while the bear eats.
