Thomas:

For those of us trying to get a detailed handle on your strategy, is there any chance you could post approximate times (day, am/midday/pm) for your trades? If this is too much, any chance you could just note what the times were for trades 26-28 for SCH? I'm trying to follow you with charts and I just don't see the crossovers (using 5/8 SMA) at the price points.

For example, (and maybe this is a second question), given the gap down today, a short crossover was created. However, if one shorted near the open, one found the low for the day! I notice your last SCH trade was a short at $43.06. The past week, SCH has been at this price 3 times: (a) Last Wednesday when SCH was already in a short from a Tuesday crossover (b) Late Thursday/Friday a.m. when SCH had given a long crossover signal and (c) near the end of the day today when, again, one theoretically should have been short from the sell signal/crossover at the open. So when did the model indicate to go short at 43.06??

Thanks! (frustrated that I can't post my quote.com chart here to show you what I'm looking at).

All...

There is a very well written article in the May issue of Active Trader magazine dealing with properly placed stops.

Active Trader is a new magazine (I have no affiliation) for the short term trader. Check it out at: www.activetradermag.com

Good luck! Ken

23. Long: 48.88 to 44.5 ($1772) in 1 days...mega ouch!!

At this point I stepped out of SCH until I could find a way to minimize the sort of whipsaw
trades that kill
profits. In this
way I managed to sidestep the next two signals which were also losers (Short: 44.5 to 45.75
and Long: 45.75
to 44.625).
But since other trades were going well, I then decided to get back in, once the market looked
favorable to this
kind of trading. NOTE: I have given up on the idea of pulling half off the table...too much work
for both me
and my partner

24. Short: 44.625 to 44.625 ($20)
25. Long: 44.625 to 45 $130
26. Short: 45 to 43.0625 $755
27. Long: 42.88 to 43.06 $52

from this point on, trade size is reduced to 200 shares with the funds diverted to another
portfolio

28. Short: 43.06 to 42.75 ($82)
29. Long: 42.75 to 42.625 ($45)

Total Profit (closed trades only): $7555 (151% gain in 2 months!)

Buy-and-hold Profit: 4.5% loss!
