It can't but can do a lot by staying on top of Chinese troop movements and doing some diplomatic handtwisting..

Will China enter a neuclear war? I wouldn't put it past some of the middle eastern countries but I doubt if China will risk it.

If the US resisted an invasion of Taiwan then it would have to go through the US Navy, not an easy task. China going nuclear would be suicide. They could hurt the US but the US could cause China to cease to exist as a functional country.
