Ted,

Doesn't company like Dell have an obligation to inform their customers about the problem? Dell knows the names and addresses of all their customers, unlike say Compaq.

I don't think too many will take their motherboard out and return it (unless they were stupid enough to buy one and build their own). They will likely expect INTEL or DELL or whomever to come out and replace the motherboard. Or at the very least send the computer back for a replacement. Now you can figure in the labor and transportation charges.
This pales compared to the Pentium FPU problem where only chip replacement was necessary and a lot of people didn't bother. Now someone has to pull out the motherboard, put a new one in and replace all the cards, maybe reload all the drivers and then test the system. This is beyond most all computer users...
