Now El Loco is his stepfather? I thought he was just El Boyfriend.

Well this will be an interesting case.

Coffey said Elian is in danger of political persecution because his mother and stepfather, who died trying to flee Cuba with the boy, are considered traitors there.

Unfortunately for the Relatives case they are also considered DEAD there. So the right to speak for the boy goes to his FATHER.

"...There is no parent in Cuba who controls what happens to his or her child, and there is no power in this country that can protect this child if he is removed to Cuba."

All kidding aside, does anyone here realize ( X Unknown I know you do) the ramifications if the American Judges were to accept Elian's asylum based on the defense presented above. We would have millions and millions of children from China, Korea, Cuba, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, Haiti and hundreds of other countries placed on an airplane and flown to the United States seeking political asylum. All they would have to do is cite the ruling on the Elian case. Because our legal system is based on Precedents, the American government would have no choice but to grant asylum to the children. Eventually the children would have the right to repatriate their immediate families.

The U.S. would go from a country of 300 million to 3 billion people. It really makes sense. I can see the judges granting Elian asylum...Yeah Right!!!!
