Thanks for the post. Very interesting - sounds a lot like the "smart radio". Do you know if they are the same?

The first patent for ultra wideband was held by Hedy Lamare the actress. She came up with the idea during world war two to provide secure military transmissions, unfortunatly technology was not up to the task at the time.
Now it is.From what I have read it also can greatly improve reception in built up areas. Each segment of transmission follows a different route bouncing off what ever is in its way. With the right software it is possible to chose the best wavelengths for transmission to each individual location.
Security is also improved since one must know the proper sequences of transmission to receive the whole message
The power requirement is also reduced.I believe that narrow band needs high power to plow through any interference .Ultra wide uses low power spread widely across the spectrum cleverly following the path of least interference.
This is all from an artical a couple of years back in Scientific America. On its web site you should be able get it from the archive. There was a whole issue dedicated to communication technology.
