I'm still hearing about shortages to come. I feel we need real shortages for everybody to really pile on. I think current orders are just catch up and replacing out dated equipment from the last slow down. I think we need a good three year boom.

I agree completely. If the following is true, this could prove to be the strongest up-cycle ever. An interesting sidebar is that there is currently more wafer capacity in terms of square inches being allocated to flash than DRAM. One reason is that most flash memory is manufactured on older processes, but it bodes very well for the future as flash is in even shorter supply than most chips.

"We are sold out, and our customers are rushing to lock up SDRAM deliveries for the third quarter when shortages are likely to be worse," said Farhad Tabrizi, vice president of worldwide strategic marketing at Hyundai Electronics America in San Jose.

ex, that might be a reason that in the near term chips might be performing better than semi equip. At least after the strong bounce I have discussed in my last few posts. My point is that if AMAT does close under $78, there is little likelihood of a new high in it. The same goes for CYMI that has already breached critical levels at $49 and $36. Rallies in these should be considered , IMHO, opportunities to sell since they would be rallies in a bear market.
