If you do nothing, then it is true that cab;e is less secure than a phone line. This is due to the fact that a cable connection makes you part of your ISPs network, and is a 24/7 connection. OTOH, anyone who has problems because they are on a cable modem is an idiot, as one can purchase a nice firewall product for around $29 (as in @guard) and be even more secure that you would be via a phone modem.
