That's an incorrect assumption, as then you are assuming that the characteristics of the US economy and consumption patterns are the same as that of the US. Which may or may not hold, and I would not make any assumptions. Applying hedonic pricing to the economy of North Korea, for example, would not improve its GDP growth rate at all.

If you get a chance to invest in two economies, you are always making na apples to oranges comparison, and for good reason too.
