Speeds are comparable, depending on how much $$ you spend with DSL..

The main securitiy issue with cable modems is if you have any kind of networking activated...Basically, a cable modem is nothing more than a big LAN. If (on a mac...) you have file sharing on and all your networking set right, anyone else that's logged in can access your machine..

Not sure if it's that simple on the PC side, but the obvious solution is to make sure all networking is off...

or go with DSL...
