THE WATSONYOUTH

What is your opinion about the current status of Coppermine and about Intel's ability to reach 1 GHz and 2 speed grades (1,066 and 1133) after that, based on the overclocking reports from the web sites?

Re: Lou is a technological illiterate.

WATSONYOUTH,

You really dislike Lou and the IBM management team? I haven't seen you say one good thing about them yet, but I've seen you say plenty of negative things.

From what I can tell, this is the way most long term IBMers feel. So I would say you're not alone.

I on the other hand think Lou has made good strategic moves over the last few years. His software strategy has saved DB2. If we would have been as dumb as Larry Ellison and ORCL, DB2 would be done. Now, all of the ERP venders are siding with us because we chose not to compete with them while ORCL did. This will have serious long term consequences for ORCL. I think our commitment to Linux will pay big dividends in the future, because I believe open source will become the standard. On the hardware front, we will see if our new stuff can sell. I still think we are the company of a million OSes, but hopefully that will be consolidated. Global Services is a huge success. I know not all of this is due to Lou, but that is the state of things now to his credit or not.
