I ponder similar questions all the time and have read scads of reviews to get the answer to the price/performance question. My overall impression is, as you said, that the PIII would perform faster but not by a margin noticeable enough to warrant the additional cost....perhaps not noticeable at all given the apps you mention, which are similar to my uses. For RT trading data the DSL connection has made the most difference for me. BTW, I'm operating with a Celeron 300 running at 450 and have no problems with multiple data/chart windows, an execution window and multiple browser windows going. You could always overclock yours, but if you don't want to mess with that the Celeron 500 should work more than fine, or even a 466. I think there are also faster Celerons out now too. I've read reviews of Celerons clocked at 600 but don't know about availability at this time. Now that I think of it, the biggest problem that bugs me these days is that the processors you mention are so adequate (including the Celerons) that I can't figure a way to convince my wife that I need to build a new computer with today's leading edge stuff. (g) OTOH, I'm looking forward to other comments about this issue too.

Dave
