Well articulated, Dave. I too have looked at benchmark results but I would like someone to tell me the benefits of a pentium III over a celeron in real life computer use.

As to my choice for CPU's it is limited by my Legend Brillianx 1S motherboard. 500 mhz for celeron and 600 mhz P III.

Another question someone may have an answer to. Given the limitations of slot 1 CPU's has anyone heard any limitations of one of those converter thingies <gg>?

Here are benchmark results for both the P III and the celeron:

<<<I ponder similar questions all the time and have read scads of reviews to get the answer to the price/performance question. My overall impression is, as you said, that the PIII would perform faster but not by a margin noticeable enough to warrant the additional cost....perhaps not noticeable at all given the apps you mention, which are similar to my uses.>>>

Best strategy is to have dual cpu computer with all scsi interface. I am still on pii-233, all scsi. I will switch dual cpu in a year's time.
