Yes, Steve. I honestly feel I get better value from the federal government than from Microsoft. The 'good' that M$ does is all about it's shareholders. I'm not one of those. I *have in the past been one of those hapless Microsoft "consumers". Microsoft "products" contain a lot of extra costs. When you upgrade it costs more than just the OS now doesn't it? It generally means buying a new machine and new 'improved' versions of other software like your 'productivity' software (there's a misnomer). The biggest expense is the time one invests in learning an operating system who's sole purpose is to shelter you from the machine (and previous knowledge). When do I get to use the Windows 3.x skill set I learned/ When do I get to use the DOS skill set I learned before that? It's all gone into the ether. The real cost to me is how we as a nation are dumping this crap on our children. How much is it costing us to be teaching kids Powerpoint in place of TCP/IP networking? --- That's not something that a MSFT shareholder considers now, is it? Anything beyond their immediate personal financial return? -JCJ
