nothing to puzzle, the server you are connecting can be busy. so, it does not matter whether you use netscape or IE. I get it all the time and I have cable.

I recently got DSL and it's great, but I frequently get an annoying pause just after clicking on a site and the browser says "Connecting to ....". (This is a unique message...not the same as "Finding site...." or "Site found, waiting on reply", which I also see sometimes.)

I had a similar problem with my Mindspring DSL. They blame it on the browser software but I'm not too sure. Mindspring tried to get me to switch to Netscape but the problem remained although it was slightly different. I complained many times and finally I got one of the techs who helped me solve much of the problem by changing the windows network settings. I also would recommend the freeware System Mechanic which fine tunes your registry settings for DSL. The only problem I am currently having with IE is sometimes I get the message "Cannot find an internet connection" with the buttons "work offline" or "try again". When I hit try again it connects and works fine.
