One of the Sunday talk shows ran a segment this morning on why kids don't do what their parents ask. I wasn't paying very close attention, but my ears twitched when the speaker said that kids don't grasp the concept of time until age 6. I couldn't help but think of all the folks on this thread who have promoted letting Elian decide. If a child doesn't understand the concept of time until 6, I hardly think that by 6 he can comprehend the various "isms" at issue, the value of affluence or family in the life of a child, or how this decision about him might affect the fate of American children who are caught up in international custody disputes or other children seeking to immigrate. My goodness, the adults on this thread have enough difficulty with the implications of Elian and his boat trip.
