Randall >> They risk very little by losing in CDMA and risk a lot by having GSM move to CDMA. That is why I don't think Nokia will buy Q chips and why if they did, it would signal the collapse of Fortress Europe.

I have quite a different view of it all. I believe a day doesn't pass someone at NOK top management doesn't go to Jorma and say "But Boss, look at all the money we could be making. if, just if we were selling CDMA in the US. 30% penetration, huge internet establishment.. " And it is true, they are salivating at the money they are not making in the US. And the day they start doing business with Q, their stock will double in three months. Based on this line of thinking, I went long on NOK in a substantial way (subbstantial for me). I will give it 6 months. If they have not come around by then, It is all over for them in my opinion. Because VOD will get into EU sooner or later. And in the US, the market will belong to Samsung, KYO, MOT, ERICY completely.

On the other hand, the day will come when CDMA can't be ignored, even by Nokia. When that day comes, I'll be buying all of the call options in Q that I can afford. China moving quickly and decisively to CDMA just might do the trick.

You just made a great argument for buying the longest term LEAPs anyone can find. Probably a bargain at this point, I should imagine.

RK - I believe that Nokia would rather write off the entire current CDMA market than shoot holes in their efforts to prolong the upgrade th 3G in their GSM markets.

VEry concisely put and summed up. We should forget about NOK and China. If they happen well and good if not ..so what.

Europe is going to fall far behind becuase of this GSM thing. Too bad NOK sisn't invent a broadband system that can outperform the Q. Well i didn't and becuase it didn't it will block the best system because if it were to pay Dr Jacobs they would lose face and the super profit they make out of GSM.

Did you see the phot of the new Korean phone with MP3 player that I posted the link yesterday? Now thats the place to look.

Lets look toward the US, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, Korea and a couple of others that I have no doubt missed out. These countries will soon be providing over 2Mgbts to mobile users and that will put Europe years behind. Too bad.

Best regards,

L
