I agree that self-interest is involved, but I don't like the idea of "natural law". I don't think there is any such thing. Morality is what we make it.

Babykillers are NOT universally abhorred, if it is wartime. Again, self-interest comes into play. A most effective way to harm the enemy is to ruin their reproductive apparatus ... the women and children.
We have injunctions against this sort of thing in "civilized" society, but it is by deliberate convention working together with our higher instincts. I don't accept that "a natural moral principle" is engaged ... it is quite an artificial principle. Reversion to the old tribal way of totally ****ing up the enemy is always there, in our unconscious, like wolves outside the firelight.
