This is the easiest question I have had in a long time.

Dell is paying far far less than anyone thinks.
They need to equip entire PCs. The fact that they can offer PCs with RDRAM at almost the same price as SDRAM PCs should be a clear indication.

Dell is not stupid enough to take a loss just to keep Rambus happy.

Spot prices are high because DELL (who stuck with INTC and RMBS) and SONY are sucking up the entire demand at pre-negotaited prices. Spot prices are dropping (but not fast enough) because supply is ramping up (also not fast enough)
see I am fair about this.

I can not prove any of this. There just is no other logical
explanation.
