Barrick sees no added Tanzania risk
Toronto--May 16--Canada's Barrick Gold Corp. on Tuesday said it doesn't
expect the political problems and social unrest that have afflicted many African
countries of late to spill over into Tanzania, where it is currently developing
its Bulyanhulu gold project. Nevertheless, Barrick has implemented strategies
designed to guard against the potential for added risk in the country. (Story

And is looking for acquisitions to boost its returns.

Barrick not compelled to make acquisitions
Toronto--May 16--Randall Oliphant, president and CEO of Canada's Barrick
Gold Corp. said Tuesday that the company continues to generate strong growth
through its own projects and sees little necessity in acquiring fellow mining
companies to enhance its earnings and production levels. Yet Oliphant added that
the company would still look at new opportunities that could boost its returns.
