I suspect that the errors have to do with the timing issues.

The PC boards probably have a +- 10 % tolerance from batch to batch. RAMBUS specifys these tolerances for RDRAM. Who knows what they are for MTH to SDRAM.

I have been through a number of these platform development cycles. It takes quite a lot of time to go through all the test issues to produce a reliable platform. The motherboard needs to be ready at the beginning of the cycle, not in the middle. But anything is possible....
