Or the water cup may be vibrating because of a small tremor; worrisome perhaps, but not of the same terrifying magnitude of a T-Rex, a major quake, or a tsunami. A sense of proportionality is always important--that's why we have the cautionary tale of the boy who "cries wolf."

Much worse things have happened in this country that didn't presage a slide into Nazi-like terror: we've had millions in chains, the suspension of habeas corpus during the Civil War; the overreaction to the labor demonstrations of the early 1900's; lynchings; forced confessions pre-Miranda; U.S. citizens of Japanese descent forced into concentration camps during WW II; the 1968 Chicago "police riot"; undeclared "wars". etc. All very bad. None were the forerunner of the re-creation of Nazi Germany on our shores.

Proportionality, reason, and a sense of history is all I ask.

Try inhaling oxygen once in a while. It helps the circulation on the upper floor if you know what I mean.
