Of course they're just estimates. That's what I'm interested in. (We're all making estimates).

DELL has for years designed its own motherboards for the Optiplex line of PC's.

Dell is making it's own VC820/840 mobo's? Reference?

These will not show up in the 820 or 840 motherboard count. These constitute about 60% of the desktops if you take Dave's numbers seriously.

I don't think that's correct. OptiPlex includes the 810 and 440BX. What percentage do you estimate are VC820?

AVL has received Intel Corporation's certification to provide System Validation testing. This validation testing is required for module vendors in order to be listed on Intel's System Validated web site.

"We will continue to work very closely with Intel to offer complete System Validation services for desktops, notebooks, and servers that will allow for faster time-to-market and simpler, one-stop validation services," explained Larry Ho, Director of Technical Labs, Advanced Validation Labs.

"By having Advanced Validation Labs provide RIMM System Validation services worldwide, the listing process for the Intel validated web site has been simplified for memory module suppliers," said David Zimmerman, Memory Validation and Test Manager, Platform Memory Operations, Intel. "AVL has dedicated significant resources in the U.S., and in Taiwan and Europe in Q3, to ensure faster-cycle validations for OEMs, system integrators, motherboard manufacturers and system buyers. This will guarantee that the modules they purchase have been validated," added Zimmerman.

System Validation testing involves the testing of modules using Intel-supplied validation software on specially verified system boards. Thermal stress testing is also included as part of the validation tests.

Advanced Validation Labs, Inc. currently has operations in Fountain Valley, California. Two new labs will be established in Taiwan and Europe to serve the Asia Pacific and European markets respectively.
