Gene,

0% of DEL machines ship with Intel VC820 motherboards. Dell don't buy in motherboards from Intel, they design and manufacture their own.

What proportion of Optiplex machines use the 820 or 840 chipsets is an interesting question to which I don't think anyone here knows the answer. What has been pointed out several times is that :-

1) All 820/840 based motherboards they ship are Rambus only, which is why they have no problems with the MTH fiasco.

2) All new models introduced recently are Rambus only

3) There is little difference in price between equivalently configured SDRAM and Rambus systems from Dell.

Ian

Re:I don't think that's correct. OptiPlex includes the 810 and 440BX. What percentage do you estimate are VC820?

You are misunderstanding what I said. The Optiplex line is about 60% of DELL's desktops. I did not specify a breakdown into 820 840 class machines. It would be good to know the breakdown but DELL does not publish that.
