RS--Helpful analysis. Thank you.

We should also not forget that the products have quality differences, as well as the cost differences, e.g.:

1. G*'s handset size allows the user to carry it in her/his laptop or attache case. The other products require the equivalent of a separate case. (Mini-M weighs 2.4kg, the HSD terminal weighs 25kg)

2. G*'s LEO permits "undelayed" conversations, vs. the GEO orbit's delays.

3. G*'s anticipated data rate will be 9.6 Kbps, which compares favorably to the Mini-M rate of 2.4 Kbps. The 25 kg HSD setup will get ISDN-type speeds of 64 Kbps.

4. How much do the various terminals cost, btw? I couldn't find it on the Glocall pages I visited.

Best,
JS

Here are some tidbits garnered from yesterday's LOR meeting in NYC:

-It appears that OmniTracs probably will migrate to G*(not imminent); however, OmniTracs usage would not be significant volume.

-The $19M in pre-committed revenue is just that--precommitted. It has not been paid by the SPs.

-Tony Navarra clarified the GW royalty issue. No GW royalties recognized in Q1 because of timing of GW release to SPs. $350K/GW royalty payment follows a testing period of up to six weeks following turning the gateway over to the SP. As of yesterday, it was stated that 15 GWs in billable service. Royalties for GWs will begin to be recognized in Q2.

-Handset royalties are paid upon shipment of the phones from the manufacturers.

-As I referenced in a previous post, there is something in the works from a commercial aviation standpoint, but BLS refused to elaborate.

-It was stated that VOD has ordered the NZ GW.

-Expressed confidence that any YE shortfall in revenue could be managed via several alternatives.

-China: Comm. service start 6/1/00+/- @ $0.73/min.

-Russia: Comm. service start 6/1/00+/-, Fully operational w/ third GW in August

-15 US Gov't. agencies are currently testing phones. Gov't. approval to purchase is imminent. (That's approval to purchase, not purchases.)

-2G car kit w/ smaller antenna soon.

Further on costs:

station12shop.com

Mini-M/Altus type--$3,775

High Gain--$4,775

G*--$1,495 (at GMPCS), or $999 on sale (elsewhere).

The extra $2,000+ adds a significant premium when amortized over the minutes used in a couple of years.

Best,
JS
