That's wierd. I really like the SI format. I think the only thing I'd add would be a threading option to where one could click on the 'replies' and get more than the initial layer of replies. I think they could get away with not charging $ for the service and making it more open. I doubt it's the $'s that keeps us so 'non-yahooish'. It would make more sense to make the service free for verified real name users and charge a premium for aliases. --- I was always surprised that Usenet didn't have more investment discussion happening. It seems like there's more traffic in alt.physics.new-theories than alt.invest or whatever it is. --- We do a pretty good job of moderating ourselves. rudedog's posts seem a little longish and wander off to places like "Tandem"?? --- We've done an excellent job here of keeping the SGI investors from spamming us. Cheryl W. is a big draw and I suspect the subject of more than one wierd geekish carnal fantasy here. You fellows *know what I'm talking about and who you are. --- Maybe there's a level of malaise on the boards that comes directly from the market action of the past couple months. I imagine somone that felt the sting of a margin call and/or going underwater with an investment isn't as inclined to be active posting. I know the threads of the .coms I have bookmarked just went dry after the selloff. --- How about opinions from people who are not posting? --- SI could concentrate a little more on the overall community; like 'voting' and the type of services that made for successful BBSs in the olden days. --- Maybe it's just the spring weather and JDN's going offline to get muddy. -JCJ

Re: Some other threads I monitor are discussing the "death" of SI

Charles and thread,

I know I said I wouldn't post until the fall, but I still read the thread, and this has nothing to do with SUNW.

I joined SI because you had to pay. Yahoo, Raging Bull, etc are all BS. It's all bullshit by people trying to manipulate stocks. A lot of the posters blatently LIE. At least on SI, you have to pay and can get a suspension for posting BS. This is good, it keeps things healthy.

I got a lifetime membership for only $200. IMHO, anyone that can't pay $200, I don't want to hear what they have to say anyway.

Though I may disagree with you guys, at least you (and I) can't make personal attacks. There's basically no SPAM. We are all serious investors with informed opinions (that's debatable in some cases).

I love SI because it eliminates the BS you see on other boards. SI is here to stay, IMHO.

Dear Charles: I think its just because the market is down. Its human nature to not wish to dwell on the negative and in this market even when a company announces outstanding results (as SUNW did) nothing much comes of it, so its hard to stay enthusiastic. I have visited all the boards you mention, I still find SI the most informative and certainly the easiest to use, although no complaints per se against raging bull. Yahoo--thats a REAL YAHOO. JDN
