I am looking at a discount store ad right now... I'm not exactly sure why, because I don't actually do much shopping. However, there is an ad for a "jacquard design beach towel". Jacquard... classy, huh? Always thought that word sounded sort of...I dunno...racy, saucy, had lotsa pizzaz... What do you think? Am I right about this? (I believe I am). I'm trying to figure out exactly why. I'm coming up with a few reasons... 1.) It sounds (and is) foreign...got its name from the French inventor of the Jacquard loom... Joseph Jacquard. "Pardon monsieur, excuse me for saying ziss, but I could not help but notice that jacquard towel vitch you are lying on... it is so... je ne sais quoi...so... debonair..." 2.) It sounds like the name of a sports car... like the ones in those pseudo-sexy automobile commercials where some lanky brunette model strokes at a leather car seat while murmuring "Jacquard... mmmmm.... Jacquard..." 3.) It reminds me of the Jacks in a deck of cards, which, for as long as I can remember and for some reason still unbeknownst to me, always seemed "special" compared to all of the rest of the cards... well, except for the Ace of Spades which I always felt a little thrill at when it turned up in my hand... (Perhaps I have a little riverboat gambler in my blood...??). Well, in any case, "Jacquard" is a good word... perhaps a little prestigious for a $3.98 towel, but hey, whatever works....
