MB. Greenspoon is raising rates but not contracting M2 in an effort to cool the real estate market. Party on. I'm buying this next dip in the market.

MB, has it occurred to you that Greenspan might prefer to see Bush in the White House rather than Gore? One scenario (I hate that word but there it is) could be that business conditions really do begin to worsen as the year goes on, and that Gore gets the blame, but then a really bad disruption sets in and Bush gets Hoovered.

I am quoting Robert Shiller too often, but he points to the effect of interest rate rises (which he characterizes as "whole body radiation" as opposed to laser surgery) in puncturing the 1929 US bubble and the 1990 bubble in Japan, and the long-lasting effects on the economies.

I think "novice investor" might have a point in anticipating the ruination of the Nasdaq and economic stagnation following.

Mike (Preakness),

We know that Fusaichi Pegasus deserves to be the favorite, but I think I have a longshot to consider here.

I expect Hugh Hefner to get little action on the board because he's never beaten anyone and got crushed against good horses when he tried. There's also lots of speed in here. However, I think he has been improving and lots of good horses got killed in that Breeders Cup juvenile because of the bias.

In his last race, he rushed into what appears to be a very hot pace from an outside post. He held up fairly well. This is his 3rd race off the layoff so he's likely to move forward. He has the rail at Pimlico which is often a big advantage for speed horses and he's a son of Bertrando. Bertrando ran some HUGE races on wet tracks in his time.

If he can shake loose from High Yield and Hal's Hope early, he may be able to hang around for a major piece of the pie. Especially if the track is wet or the inside is an advantage. I would suggest that if you are going to play the race that you observe the other races today and not totally disregard this one. Maybe he'll finish last if he can't get an easy lead, but at a huge price he can't be tossed.

Wayne

Michael,
You were right on about GEMS moving over 20 and it ended up topping out at 30. Now that it is back to the 11 area, do you think it's a buy again? Thanks in advance!

Terry
