telecomguy, long post. nice typing. CSCO reported a run rate of 1 billion for optical gear, mostly in the Cerent product line, not routers as you speculate. Personally, I see Cerent facing increased and immediate competition from several new start-ups. tp.

Perhaps I mis-stated. CSCO reported a $1B run rate in optical sales alone. SP business is probably on a run rate of (guessing based upon a comment Chambers made) $7B-$8B. I know this is smaller than LU and NT but still not bad when you consider CSCO was no where in this market a few years back. That comment that John made?... That CSCO SP revenues would surpass enterprise revenues (which I remind you are still growing at faster than the market rate) in the next 18 months. I think it was 18 months... might have been less. But I recall it was real soon.

Conclusion? CSCO is executing and the "bet" as you put it, is paying off big.
