Personally, I'm now convinced that a back up strategy exists.
The press has reported they have reliable sources confirming the existence of the strategy, (PC Welt and the Register). The reports haven't been denied, but labeled "speculation".
But more importantly, I think a company that requires a new device to support the enormous expenditures on their own new technology would be remiss if they didn't have a back up strategy in place. Obviously they'd prefer it won't be required, and thus will try to keep it a secret. (But in the information age of the Internet this isn't easy).
