I just got a week 18 K7-700. Should I worry about counterfeit? It was downbinned by AMD from 800+ in the first place. At worst, a creative reseller just upbinned it for you. -Eric

Hello Jim, Re: I just got a week 18 K7-700. Should I worry about counterfeit? Yes, always worry!!! There's a link in my earlier post Message 13705011 to insanehardware (pictures and descriptions). Look from the mother board side of your processor at the grey heatsink compound on your two cache chips. The first clue that tampering occured on my processors was the messy appearance of this heasink compound. Also inspect very closely the lettering on the top edge where the "700" is, look for any thing different about any digit(s) and pay attention to the reflected light on and adjacent to those digits. Who knows how much better the counterfeits may have become in the last few months, mine were bought the last of Jan, 2000. I wonder whether the socketed Athlons will be venerable to this sort of thing? BTW, have you got your week 18 K7-700 on a board and running yet? Let me know, I'm interested.
