Sure they are influenced by marketing...like anybody else on the planet. So what?

I repeat: THe idea that a regular physician will get travel grants because he orders a case of Claritin is ridiculous.

Now, travel grants are given to doctors who research the drugs. Now, THAT's a potential conflict of interest. And stock ownership in the drug companies that finance drug research, that just SCREAMS for reform.

These doctors are in a tiny minority. But I was talking about the average working Joe/Jane doc. Those are the people holding the system together by sacrifice. I think that is already changing. Look at NY state docs joining a union.

If you want to talk about marketing, lets talk about drug companies marketing direct to consumers. The message is "Diagnose yourself with social avoidance disorder and tell the doctor what to prescribe you". So now doctors receive pressure to prescribe more expensive drugs they may not want to prescribe to people who don't think they should have to pay for it. I am telling you, the pressures on physicians are tremendous.
