Re : Qualcomm putting money into NetZero -- look at the market cap. of AOL, and remember how horrible AOL is.

Look at the trend (worldwide) of providing Internet access for free.

Look at how small NetZero is (even at the $12.25 per share price that Qualcomm paid (if I remember correctly)).

I think the investment in NZRO will most likely turn out to be brilliant.

I even started buying shares of NZRO after I learned of Qualcomm's involvement, and plan to buy lots more (over time).

Jon.

Jman, please pardon me for intruding into what may be a private chat. Your points, however, deserve discussion as they are valid. It's the first time I've seen your particular explanation for Q's price's downsizing.

To what extent do you blame the market in general? You must admit that the Naz's performance is responsible for a great deal of the recent collapse. I will admit that the PW's analyst's comments at the end of the year probably caused part of the inflation in Q's price which was predictably followed by its slow erosion while the rest of the Naz had its balloon blown up in Feb. and March.

What do you see for the rest of the year? Did you notice the shipment of Q's 100 millionth ASIC? Do you agree that this portends extremely good 3d and 4th Quarters?

Interested in your thoughts for the Q's future.

jm, great post. I am so glad I sold on dec 31 and again at 151 in April. I too did not like the Kycorea deal, that worried me and was a tip-off. I am much more cynical now. Do you remember Voltaire and his train with the conductor taking eveyone along and pointing to the ruins of AT&t, etc..
What madness that seems now. When it soared into the 765 range, what ws it up 150 points in one day? I was so scared I sold it all. Bot some back at 600 and got out more or less break even.
I have had other disasters, however. Most notably RIMM down to 30 from 116.

The investment in NetZero reminds me of QCOM's investment in G* - another niche B.S. money losing business.

QCOM has not invested anything in G*. It received the 6%shares as founder. QCOM has and will continue to make a great deal of money from from sale of gateways, handsets and royalties. Most of this income comes from the service providers not G*. If over the next few years subscribers get to the 7 million level QCOM will be the prime beneficiary of G*.

Dont forget QCOM reported a $300+ million capital gain last quarter. These guys know what they are doing.

When your portfolio comes close to the return QCOM's has shown the past few years, let me know.

LOL!

Good fortune to you and all your lovely family members, SI Bob, No Pants Manance, Mr. Backbone, etc., etc.

Good Grief!

vegas,

Re Eudora, I guess it's a great thing but I don't know what for!? I guess they want to be a portal too. What do I know!? I still hold some of this beast though.

The trick is going to be in what leadership emerges after this obliteration. Last Fall is history, the next Bull run will include the normal tech bell weathers but new names will appear. Who will they be!?

Happy Hunting!!

MileHigh

PS- I knew you were not smug, other were as they railed (sp) on you...Funny, funny, eh!? Who had the last laugh? It is NEVER EVER a bad thing to take OBSCENE profits off the table, but you know that. Not sure we will see a run like that in the NAZ again in sometime, you know, FED pumping money in the system for Y2K concerns, fast money chasing faster money, money flying all over the place.

What a strange trip it was!!

Best!
