Sudan: Saudi investors and a Finnish company will participate in gold exploration

Sudan: Mining Ministry, Company Sign Gold Prospecting Agreement
Text of report by Sudanese news agency Suna, May 23

Khartoum, 23rd May: An agreement was signed [on] Monday [22nd May] at the Ministry of Energy and Mining between the ministry and the Sudanese Ridha Mining Company on gold exploration in Nahr al-Nil State [northern Sudan].

The agreement was signed by the minister of energy and mining, Dr Awad Ahmed al-Jaz, and [the] director of the company, Awad Umar Abd al-Salam.
The concession area for exploring gold lies at Bloc 23 near Barbar town, Nahr al-Nil State.

Saudi investors and a Finnish company will participate in the gold exploration project.

Speaking at a ceremony held on the occasion, Dr Al-Jaz said abundant gold is existing in [the] area. He welcomed the Saudi investors who will participate in implementing the project.

He said that the agreement was the second of its kind for exploring gold at the area, explaining that an agreement was signed last month with a French company for gold exploration at the area. Dr Al-Jaz reiterated that Sudan welcomes investment in different fields in Sudan.

Meanwhile, [the] director of Ridha Company said that all technical and material preparations had been completed for beginning work.
General director of the Geological Research Corporation Dr Umar Muhammad Khayr said that the concession area reaches around 6,000 square kilometres.

The ceremony of signing the agreement was attended by the ministers of finance and industry and the Saudi ambassador to Sudan.

Khartoum Signs 17 Million Dollars Pact With Beijing
Panafrican News Agency (PANA), May 23

KHARTOUM, Sudan (PANA) - Sudan has concluded two contracts totalling 17 million US dollars with China for the purchase of power engines and irrigation water pumps.

Under the first contract China will provide Sudan with 40 electric power engines worth 9 million dollars, a release from the ministry of finance in Khartoum said Tuesday.

The engines, each with a daily output of 1 megawatt, will be installed in different parts of the country, it added.

Under the second pact, Beijing will provide Khartoum with 256 irrigation water pumps valued at 8 million dollars to boost agriculture in some parts of the country.

The Chinese Export and Import Bank will finance the deals, which were signed in Beijing during a recent visit by the minister of finance, el Zubair Ahmed el Hassan.
