I can understand believing in a loving absolutely kind being, all knowing and all powerful- that might be comforting- but very few people seem to believe in THAT kind of being.

Actually, that is my belief in a nutshell. If other people need a fire and brimstone type, it's their problem. I don't. I don't know that I'd say I find even this notion of God particularly comforting though--more an extremely high standard to emulate.

X,
There were babies and children in the Nazi concentration camps, they were in Jerusalem when the Romans destroyed almost every brick of city, they were in China when the Mongols rode down on villages and cities destroying everything in their path, they were in the Philipines when the Japanese invaded, and so on, and so on. I agree that the death of babies and children is deplorable but, if you are going to blame the people of the Old Testament, and God, why do you seem to refuse to lay blame, or condemnation, on other people and cultures who have committed the same acts you so detest. It is not equitable to concentrate on only one group, or person, when so many others have done as "bad"(as you see it) as the only one you rail on about. ~H~

Since I am very prolife, I worry deeply about the fetuses incinerated in the destruction of Sodom. Surely they were innocent? Not to mention all the pregnant adulteresses stoned by pious Law abiding Jews. I don't feel too well about those first-borne Egyptian boys the death of whom the Jews celebrate every year. Oh well, I prefer to believe it is all imaginary anyway.
