Under the most likely current scenario we would not go to war, but disruption of supply chain from Taiwan (electronics) would hammer us. I'm thinking a moe into Micron would be a better than decent hedge against this "little problem".

And the Taiwan Straits are shallow and muddy, not the best conditions for zipping heavy armament over to conquer the island. You are right, invasions over water are tough even in good circumstances, and the attacked would likely be more ferocious than the attackers. My bet is that the generals wont try it. Yet. For military reasons, aside from obvious geopolitical (and thermonuclear) ones.
